The Reel vs The Real
About
Dramatising History: The Art of Story-Telling in the Film and Television Industry During my time as a History undergraduate, I have spent much time examining textual sources in relation to my studies. Often, this coincides with my interest in historical portrayals in film and television. However, there remains a fundamental conflict between fact and creative license. This blog aims to evaluate these translations, arguing the extent to which dramatic appeal often excludes truthful narratives, and if, it is ever possible, to tread the line between the two. Through this work, I hope to not only analyse the historical meaning embedded in screen adaptations, but also illuminate the lives of those omitted from these re-tellings.
